After making these changes, reboot the router.Ģ.4 gHz is slower but has greater range. Also, be certain the router is not set to use N speeds only auto B, G and N is preferred. I recommend a fixed channel, either 1, 6 or 11, rather than automatic channel selection. Second, if your router is capable of N speeds, you may have better connectivity with a channel width of 20 MHz in the 2.4 GHz band instead of automatic 20/40 MHz, although it is likely to affect N speeds. WPA2-AES is preferred not any WPA and WPA2 mixed mode and certainly not TKIP. In fact, I think you might have better luck if you accessed the administration pages of the router and changed the names, something like myrouter2.4 and myrouter5. It means that your router is broadcasting on both bands, almost as if it was two different routers. What does it mean when the OS shows two AP's? In this case a 2G and a 5G. If I can't get this to work I guess I'll just buy a pcie unit from Amazon and hope that it comes with a supported driver. This does beg the question of if/when I get the dual band unit to work, how do I turn off the internal AP?Īnyway, I'd like to fight my way through this but could use some guidance. Regarding the internal AP, when I run iwconfig, both are shown but if I run sudo iwlist scan, I get an error for the A6210 (wlx9c3dcff99353 Failed to read scan data : Resource temporarily unavailable). Is there a driver that I can just drop in without going through the make process? I probably should brush up on the Makefile stuff as I haven't had to use it in years.Īnyway what I seem to find is that Netgear doesn't support linux (how can that be?) and a lot of other people have struggled with this.

I've tried a couple of drivers on github that require a make process one finishes with a couple errors but doesn't work and the other gives a whole bunch of mkdir errors. The integrated wifi adapter is only 2Ghz and I want to upgrade it to dual band so I found an old Netgear USB adapter but I can't get the driver to work. I'm running 21.04 on an older desktop sitting in my garage where I use it as a file server for backups.
